NGS-201: SOLiD™ DNA Library Construction (5 days)
Designed for individuals preparing genomic DNA libraries for sequencing on the SOLiD™ System or the 5500 Series Genetic Analyzer platform and seeking detailed knowledge of the molecular biology techniques used for SOLiD™ System library construction.
Prerequisites:Ownership of a SOLiD™ System or 5500 Series Genetic Analyzer (or belonging to a laboratory that has purchased a system) is a prerequisite for registration. Ideally, individuals have already participated in the SOLiD™ System Training Course, although this is not mandatory. This class assumes attendees will have prior knowledge of biological systems and basic experience with laboratory techniques, such as pipetting and PCR.
Course Description:A 5-day course involving classroom and laboratory sections for fragment and mate-paired library construction. Course includes in-depth discussions of SOLiD™ System library construction and the molecular biology strategies that are used in the workflow. (Please note, we will NOT be able to use customer samples for library construction during this course.) Each participant will have the option to choose either a low-input or high-input fragment library protocol. Upon completion of the fragment protocol, each participant will then construct a mate-paired library to be used for sequencing on the SOLiD™ System or 5500 Series Genetic Analyzer. Information and strategies for different sequencing applications and how these relate to library construction and preparation of genomic samples will also be provided.

This class assumes attendees will have prior knowledge of biological systems and basic experience with laboratory techniques, such as pipetting and PCR.
Course Description:An approximately 3-day intensive course providing strong practical and theoretical knowledge of construction of targeted resequencing libraries. Participants will perform targeted enrichment of selected regions of the genome enrichment (with the Agilent SureSelect®** Target Enrichment System) and construct the resulting enriched library using genomic DNA provided by the training lab. (Please note, we will NOT be able to use customer samples for library construction during this course.) Theory behind enrichment and library construction and an in-depth evaluation of each critical stage of the workflow is reviewed. Participants will also be provided with best practices on library QC methods, laboratory preparation, and equipment calibration before embarking on the creation of their own libraries.

NGS-210: Advanced SOLiD™ Data Analysis Course (2 days)
Course attendees should have an extensive background in bioinformatics, basic to advanced knowledge and navigation of Linux, and own a 5500 Series Genetic Analyzer (or have an affiliation with a laboratory that has purchased a system).
Course Description:A 2-day course involving classroom presentations and hands-on analysis pipeline execution with sample data sets. This course is designed to introduce the bioinformatics tools available for the 5500 Series Genetic Analyzer to individuals who have a substantial background in bioinformatics (including data mining). The goal of this training is to enable successful utilization of the LifeScope™ Genomic Analysis Software with a focus on Mapping, Re-Sequencing, Whole Transcriptome and smRNA Analysis workflows. Hands-on exercises are performed using both Linux command-line and graphical user interfaces.
Tuition includes course materials, breakfast, and lunch. Travel, accommodation, and other incidental expenses relating to the training are the responsibility of the attendee.

Course Description:A 5-day intensive overview of the Applied Biosystems next-generation sequencing technology, the SOLiD™ 4 System. Hands-on training includes initiating and monitoring several runs during class, creating beads for the first run of their system, setting up multiple emulsions, and performing a library titration to optimize emulsion PCR.
