Course lectures and laboratory exercises
Course Content: During this 4-day interactive lecture and laboratory course, students receive training on the Applied Biosystems Quantifiler® Duo Kit and the AmpFℓSTR® Identifiler® and Yfiler® PCR Amplification Kits. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of combining Applied Biosystems validated Human Identification reagents with instrumentation and software for optimal performance. Attendees utilize the most advanced solutions available for Human Identification applications, including DNA quantification using the Quantifiler® Duo kit and the 7500 Real-Time PCR System, amplification of single source and mixed samples using the AmpFℓSTR® Identifiler® and Yfiler® kits, and genotyping on the 3130 Genetic Analyzer. In addition, hands-on training with the GeneMapper® ID-X or ID Analysis Software enables analysts to gain a better understanding of how to configure the software and utilize it to reduce the time needed to analyze AmpFℓSTR® amplification kit data.
This hands-on laboratory work, coupled with the interactive lectures, will help students better understand when and how to use the tools available for human identification applications.
Training course fees include course materials, a four-night stay at a designated local hotel near the training facility, continental breakfast, lunch, snacks for each day, and a group dinner with the trainers. HID-205: Forensic DNA Analysis - 3500 (2 days)
Course Content: This 2-day course presents in-depth training on the operation and maintenance of the 3500 Genetic Analyzer for forensics and paternity laboratories. Interactive lectures and hands-on exercises with the 3500 will provide detailed instruction on the new Data Collection interface, calibrations, setting up a plate, within Data Collection data pre-review, generating reports, and data normalization. An introduction to GeneMapper® ID-X v. 1.2 software data analysis will cover the basics of data analysis, the Analysis Summary page, the profile comparison tool, setting up for data normalization and reports.
This hands-on laboratory work, coupled with the interactive lectures, will help students better understand when and how to use the tools available for human identification applications.

Course Content: This 2-day course provides in-depth training on DNA quantification for HID using TaqMan® Real-Time PCR technology. Real-time PCR theory will be discussed and hands-on laboratory exercises will utilize the Quantifiler® Duo DNA Quantification Kit on the 7500 Real-Time PCR System. Interpretation of results will be discussed and strategies for the determination of the most appropriate downstream STR amplification kit will be presented. Course Content: This 1-day course provides in-depth training on DNA extraction for HID using the PrepFiler Forensic DNA Extraction Kit. An overview of the chemistry will be discussed and hands-on laboratory exercises including extraction and quantification will demonstrate how to utilize the PrepFiler Kit to extract DNA from forensic samples for optimal downstream STR profiling results.

HID-280: HID EVOlution System Training (3 days)
Course Content: This 3-day class provides in-depth instruction on the operation of the HID EVOlution� System, an integrated, HID-validated automation system that combines the Tecan Freedom EVO® 150 automated liquid-handling workstation with Applied Biosystems instruments and reagents using application specific software and protocols. Topics covered include the theory of operation, running validated scripts for extraction, quantification, normalization and STR amplification, as well as troubleshooting. Participants will engage in hands-on workflows on the Tecan Freedom EVO® 150 robotic platform.
Training course fees include course materials, a three-night stay at a designated local hotel near the training facility, continental breakfast, lunch, snacks for each day, and a group dinner with the trainers. Participants receive course training materials and a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the course.

Course Content: This 3-day training provides in-depth instruction on the advanced features of GeneMapper® ID-X Software, including installation in a multi-user database environment, optimization for use as an Expert System, analysis requirement check, allelic ladder quality assessment, analysis summary tool, comprehensive quality value system, manual review tools, chain-of-custody and other security/audit features, quality control features, the report manager and the mixture analysis tool. Course Content: This 4-day class provides in-depth training on methods to maximize the recovery of interpretable STR profiles from challenging samples, including difficult mixtures and degraded and/or inhibited samples. Strategies for handling difficult samples will be discussed, while hands-on laboratory exercises will utilize the most advanced HID solutions available including DNA quantification with the Quantifiler® Duo kit on the 7500 Real-Time PCR system; STR amplification with the AmpFℓSTR® Identifiler®, Yfiler® and MiniFiler� PCR amplification kits; capillary electrophoresis on the 3130 Genetic Analyzer; and analysis of single source and mixed source samples using GeneMapper® ID-X Software. Course Content: This 3-day course taught by an Applied Biosystems Field Applications Specialist (FAS) and a Field Service Engineer (FSE) provides participants with extensive specialized knowledge for troubleshooting Applied Biosystems HID-validated instruments, reagents and software. HID-250: Web-Based HID Software Training (2 1/2 hours)
Course Content: This $500.00 online 2.5-hour course will provide customized training for forensic analysts seeking follow-up information and guidance on software programs such as GeneMapper® ID-X, GeneMapper® ID, and VALID. Basic knowledge of the program of interest is strongly recommended for efficient use of this training. (Valid registration code and instrument serial number are required.)
This training can also be used for GeneMapper® v4.0 users who want to become more familiar with STR kit data analysis.
You will need a computer with high-speed internet connection and access to a phone. Please log on at least 10 minutes prior to the start time to account for any technical difficulties that may arise.
